An all too brief visit to RAF Valley
It has to be said that RAF Valley is probably one of the most accessible bases in the UK, you really get close to the action.
I had a spare morning whilst in North Wales so I headed over the Menai Straight and made my way to the parking area at the south of the Base. As I was parking a pair of Texan’s passed over and landed, so it was safe to say I’d be seeing some movements.
The fence around Valley is low, I mean very low. No ladders needed. There are vantage points all around the base with the sand dunes offering a great view of the base.
Being so close to the action, we had three Hawk T2’s pass by, one being the Hawk lost a couple of months later over Ynys Mon. All in we were treated to multiple movements througout the couple of hours I spent at the location, I can’t stress how enjoyable the short visit was.
As I said, it was all too short a visit, the locals were very friendly and wondered why I’d made my way to Wales from the South East of England.
Next day was due to be families day and I was warned that it would be very busy outside. I, though, would not be visiting on that day.
