Shuttleworth – Season Opener 2021

Here we go again, Covid is still rampaging and overseas travel is still severely restricted. One thing we can count on, is for the Shuttleworth Collection to do their thing and keep us happy.

Having been one of the many who attended the ill fated Magic of the Musicals Evening show in August 2020 the organisers decided to issue replacement tickets for future events to those of us who sat in the low cloud, rain and general gloom waiting for something to fly.

The season opener looked like a good start and, as usual, it didnt disappoint. A mixed line up, very home collection centric with a couple of external visitors from up the road at Duxford.

The star of any Shuttleworth show for me will always be Grosvenor House – G-ACSS – DH88 Comet. The sublime lines and sound of this magnificent aircraft never fail to disappoint.

John Romain displayed the recently re-painted Hispano Buchon from the Aircraft Restoration Company. As ever, John know’s how to put on a show and gave the gathered enthusiasts an agile, highly entertaining display.

It was good to see “Miss Pick Up’ back displaying after recent exploits north of the Border in Loch Ness. Having broken down on the Loch, the Catalina Society had to work hard to get repairs done in time and the PBY-5A was able to return to the skies once more.

As always, a great day out at such a relaxed venue. More please!
