Nightshoot on the Bump

Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar opened their door to enthusiasts in March 2026

It seems that every day I have a Spitfire from Biggin buzzing our local area, it’s a common sound but one that always makes me look up.

Now known as The Spitfire Company I took the opportunity to visit the then Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar and attend an evening’s photoshoot on the apron.

Under the watchful guidance of Darren Harber, the team had three of their collection lined up for us and we were able to speak to the engineering team about the work they carry out. Only one plane was ‘out of bounds’, being restored for an individual who didn’t want images taken.

The Aircraft lined up on the ramp were –

P-51D – Moonbeam McSwine

Spitfire LF MKXVIE – TE184

Hispano Buchon ‘White 9’

All three were ran during the evening, in order for us to capture them in action. My only criticism is that they could have all been positioned slightly better to allow for cleaner shots and less pollution from the growing structures on Biggin’s south camp. The re-enactors were extremely co-operative and added to the authenticity of the shoot.

A very enjoyable evening, thankfully the weather played ball and conditions were pretty perfect. A selection of shots from the Evening can be seen below.

Hopefully this won’t be the last event and, fingers crossed, we’ll be able to return to Biggin once their twin engined Merlin marvel has arrived on these shores!
