The opportunity to fly alongside Sally-B, Europe’s sole remaining airworthy B-17 was too great an opportunity to miss.

The whole weekend was being dedicated to photographing her at North Weald, with actors from the forthcoming ‘Masters of the Air’ series posing for the gathered throng. A few, including myself, took the chance to grab those air to air flights. The video below serves up a sample of what we experienced.

The Air-2-Air sortie saw us take off from North Weald and the plan was to meet ‘Sally-B’ as she was departing Duxford. Our photoship for the flight was ‘Pegasus’, a classic C-47 owned by Aerolegends. Another ambition fulfilled to fly in a classic Dak!

Sadly we were unable to get the shot of Sally-B departing Duxford, but we managed to catch up with her over the Essex countryside on a beautiful warm summers day. Our route took us directly over the former USAF base in Wethersfield, then we proceeded on and headed back to land at North Weald.

The second part of the day involved re-enactors and we attempted to recreate classic World War 2 photo’s with the crew and the Memphis Belle, I don’t think we did a bad job at all. The uniforms and kit all coming from the forthcoming Spielberg mini-series ‘Masters of the Air’ which has been shot here in the UK.

Hope you enjoy the photo’s below, my third Air-2-Air sortie with COAP and one i’ll remember for a very long time to come. Cannot wait for the next!
